Bunting has been a popular topic of conversation in the shop of late. And I seem to be seeing it everywhere. I’ve ended up on an internet hunt for good tutorials quite often in the last 6 months or more, so I thought I’d share a few of my favourite tutorials here – for the bunting enthusiasts out there
Carina’s Craftblog is pretty much the star of the show in my opinion.
Carina’s Craft BlogHer excellent granny triangle tutorial can be found here and the crochet bunting tutorial here.

I knitted my first BSJ a little while ago, and it will not be my last I can tell you that now. Super quick and easy, and really fun not to mention the totally cool origami magic-ness of this pattern! We all know EZ was a genius. The trick is not to try and think about it before you start: don’t try to work it out, just knit. After about half way it all just clicks into place and you have one of those great ‘Ahhh, now I get it!” moments.
I used some of my personal (and severely dwindled) stash of my hand dyed rainbow gradient yarn. I don’t have any in stock, I’m sorry and probably won’t for a few months. Noro is a great substitute. Or using Zauberball double stranded.

I was just browsing Pinterest and came upon this image and I am totally inspired!! What a brilliant idea! And how cool for a party or kids room or loungeroom for that matter! Or even verandah… anywhere! Easily replaceable and great for those fabric scraps that are that little bit too big and you just can’t bring yourself to throw them away.
Tutorial here. I hope I have some spare time soon to give it a go

Kambamboo, a brand new hand printed fabric collection & business launched last week. Located in Byron Bay and inspired by nature – these prints and products are just gorgeous. We are lucky to be their first stockist, with the products and fabric going up on the evoke website by the end of next week.

Two of our regular & mysterious group members often pick something to make and one knits while the other crochets. This was their latest – the ‘Dalek-off’. For those that don’t know, Daleks are an extraterrestrial mutant race from the TV series Doctor Who. They are his arch enemy, and are intent on extermination. These two, however, just look sweet! And isn’t it interesting to compare knitting and crochet and different patterns?
A little OT, but I just watched The Decoy Bride and I loved it. David Tennant & Kelly McDonald, Scottish accents and lots of giggles – a great chick flick

I know y’all must be getting sick of my posts about handspun yarn, but I’m well and truly lost to the world of spinning. As a friend of mine said ‘welcome to the dark side’
Actually, it’s more like ‘welcome home’. When I got back into knitting as an adult, the two things I dreamt of was knitting socks and spinning my own yarn.
So some friends are expecting their first baby in April, and naturally I decided to spin some yarn. I had the perfect organic merino tops that I had dyed months ago in perfect boy colours. What could be nicer than an organic hand dyed, hand spun and hand knit cardi or vest for your first little bubba?
I was a little unsure how the mustard would go, but I like it. It’s very earthy. This has come up as an 8ply or thinner, which is great. Now to think about some patterns….

I’ve finished spinning my fibre sandwhich. It was definately different but loads of fun. I especially loved spinning the silk bits, and the mohair.
The whole time I was spinning I thought I would name it ‘Yikes’ because that’s what ran through my mind everytime I looked at it! But once it was done, the colours reminded me more of marimekko fabric and lounges with cushions covered in roughly woven checkered reds, oranges, black and white. So I decided to call it “flashback’ instead. I figure handspun like this deserves a flashy name
I have no idea what this will become. The only thing that springs to mind is perhaps a camping beanie (that’s a beanie I might wear whilst on a camping trip). At least if I got lost I’d be found easily

So last Saturday the more experienced spinning enthusiasts among our regular group decided to introduce the rest of us to the joys of the Fibre Sandwhich. Four of us were really keen and bought our random supplies to contribute.
There was much discussion at first about colour themes (we all know how important that is) but in the end we all (inevitably) lost our heads and just put everything we had on anyway! Nothing was safe: merino, silk, cotton thread, chopped yarn bits, mohair and quite a few unknowns.
It took a while to get it all on, and we gathered small crowds of amused onlookers at intervals throughout the morning.
Then it was time to flatten and divide.
And so there it was. A quarter each. A crazy mix of colours.
We’ll see how it spins up and see how differently we all spin with what we have!

I love spinning and I just can’t get enough. I can’t stop looking at my skeins of handspun either. I’m like in love with my yarn – stroking and petting and mesmerised by the colours and colour combos…. I need to get a grip (and spin some more lol).
My latest handspun yarns have been fulled and are dry and have consented to a photo shoot – I know, how nice of them right?
Above is Wensleydale tops and merino. The wensleydale tops were fascinating to work with – really long fibre, like hair. It was loads of fun but a little difficult to get the tension right. A little cloud of hairs wafted about me while I worked, which gave me the giggles (I’m sure it would have looked funny to anyone who chanced upon me). Adore the colours.
This is my hand dyed bamboo/superwash merino tops – so deliciously soft and squishy. It’s slippery to work with so it took me a little while to adjust. Above in ‘Field’ colourway.
Below is the same but in ‘Autumn’. I was much better with this lot, I am already thinner and more even. The colours just sing to me. I’m going to knit my son a vest for winter with this, I have 200g and I am hoping it will be enough. I’ll make it work
